InSPIRE was designed as a complement to Beechwood NeuroRehab’s Clubhouse, Supported Employment Programs, and Supported Education Programs. InSPIRE stands for Increasing Social Participation In Real-life Experiences, and utilizes a brain injury skills training/facilitation model to allow each person to participate to their maximum potential. It was developed to provide choice to its participants in terms of their productive daily activities. Group programming is led by a Recreational Therapist (CTRS), a certified Music Therapist, and a coordinator with a dance/art therapy background. All three specialties complement each other to create a program that offers a wide variety of leisure opportunities.
The program gives participants the chance to explore new leisure activities, revisit past recreation interests with adaptations as necessary, and encourage maintenance of a healthy leisure lifestyle. Goal-oriented group activities include recreation, music, creative arts, and community outings that promote social skills training, sensory/motor development, and reduction/elimination of maladaptive behavior.
The InSPIRE program implements new cultural, athletic, educational, and therapeutic activities that meet the needs and interests of all participants. In the process, participants may receive assistance in areas of daily living skills, personal care, social integration, and community assimilation utilizing compensatory strategies developed by Beechwood NeuroRehab’s Transdisciplinary Rehab Team.
